"Inspiring All to Achieve"

"St Mary's Matters" Newsletter (Issue 10)

From our Head of School

Dear Parents/Carers

A letter was sent out earlier this week to confirm that the Bosco Catholic Education Trust (CET) has now been formed by St Mary’s together with St Philip Howard Catholic High School, Barnham.  The Bosco CET website is www.boscocet.org.uk.  We do not expect parents/carers or pupils to see any difference in the day to day life at St Mary’s, but look forward to working closely with St Philip Howard and the Trust in furthering education for our pupils.

St Mary’s is currently recruiting a Headteacher to lead our school from September 2017.  Applications have been received and interviews will take place shortly after the Easter break.  A class teacher from September 2017 is also being recruited.  We will advise you of appointments once the processes have been completed.

Some parents are starting to enter the classroom with their child in the mornings, and I would again ask that parents encourage the children to enter alone.  This enables the children to settle more quickly into their morning activities.  Thank you for your co-operation with this.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the “Deep Learning” and Staff Development day taking place on Tuesday 2nd May 2017.  Children in Reception and Years 1,2,3,4 and 5 will not be in school on this day.  However, all Year 6 children are required to attend.

May I take this opportunity to wish you all a blessed Easter and a relaxing break.

Yours sincerely

Mrs L Hardy

Head of School

Let's Celebrate!

EYFS children have been working hard to develop their writing skills.  They have been writing sentences about The Easter Story, and rounded off their ‘Into the Woods’ topic with a Teddy Bears picnic.

The Year 1/2 parent celebration was a great success.  Parents joined their children for a Healthy Food workshop, making delicious healthy snacks together.

Year 3/4 have continued with the Fairy Tales part of their topic.  They have rehearsed their role plays and continued to write fairy tales, celebrating with a fairy tale performance on the last day of term.

Year 5/6 children have enjoyed learning about different  aspects of healthy living and debating whether the Government’s proposal for a sugar tax is a good idea!  Following this, the pupils chose different aspects of healthy living to research and write as a balanced argument.
