"Inspiring All to Achieve"

"St Mary's Matters" Newsletter (Issue 11)

From our Head of School

Dear Parents/Carers

Thank you for supporting our Deep Learning Day on Tuesday.  This was a very successful day for our Year 6 pupils, who are feeling confident and prepared for their SATS next week.  The non-Year 6 staff also appreciated the opportunity to visit other schools in order to observe best practice and outstanding learning, and to engage in professional dialogue with colleagues.

Thank you also for your contributions to the St George’s Day afternoon tea; especially to the Friends of St Mary’s (PTA) who helped with planning and organising this event.  It was a lovely, and very traditional, way to celebrate our Patron Saint of England.

We were disappointed with the response to the Phonics Lesson/Workshop.  We will be rescheduling these for later in the year.

Very few parents/carers returned slips indicating their wish to attend; it is essential that reply slips are returned so that we know how many parents/carers to expect and if it is viable for the event to take place.

“Staying Safe Online” sessions are being provided for parents/carers on 17th May.  Please ensure the reply slip is returned to your child’s class teacher by Friday 12th May.

I would remind you that children are not to bring toys and other personal belongings into school, including wrist bands and finger-spinners.

The redecoration programme is continuing; one EYFS class was redecorated over the Easter break, and the other will be decorated during the half-term holidays.

Yours sincerely

Mrs L Hardy

Head of School

Let's Celebrate!

EYFS have launched their  new topic - “A Minibeast Adventure”.  They have chosen the questions for which they want to find answers, and have already enjoyed “Mad about Minibeasts!” and “Superworm” books.

Year 1/2 have been  journeying around the world as part of their “Wish You Were Here” topic, and finding out about all of the different countries to which the children have links.  In English the children have been creating fantastic   information leaflets about the different countries.

Year 3/4 have been set a challenge by Professor Ben!  He sent a video   message to them from Guatemala, where he has been finding out about the Mayans.  They are to find out more about this mysterious civilisation and present their findings as a magazine article.

Year 5/6 have been auditing the school grounds to identify areas for improvement and have already generated some exciting ideas!  We wish the Year 6 pupils success in their  SATs next week.
