"St Mary's Matters" Newsletter - Issue 8

From our Head of School

Dear Parents/Carers

The decorating programme is continuing with Shakespeare’s room completed and the class settled back in.  Milton’s room is currently being decorated and the class will be moving back in shortly.  Further work will be carried out in the Summer.

Congratulations to the Friends of St Mary’s (PTA) for their recent successful sales.  Their next event is a St Patrick’s Day ‘mufti’, for which the children are asked to make a £1 donation and wear green, orange and/or white.  The Friends of St Mary’s now have their own ’page’ on the school website, and can be contacted at friendsofstmaryspta@gmail.com.

We need to review the provision of trips and activities for each year group due to insufficient funding.  As stated in each trip/letter, we ask for a voluntary contribution towards the costs.  If these contributions are not made the loss has to be covered by the school, and recently a number of trips have incurred heavy losses.  Please be assured that each voluntary contribution requested is only sufficient to cover the cost for your child.

The children and staff enjoyed celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 2nd March.  It was lovely to see so many different characters around the school.  Thank you for supporting your child and the school in this way.

Further to my letter dated 17th February, providing an update on actions taken by the school in response to parents’ concerns and issues, a Parent/Carer Questionnaire is now available.  We shall be grateful if every parent/carer completes this, either online at http://www.schooltools.org.uk/surveys/7tg78gfd or on paper.  Paper copies are available from the school office staff.

Yours sincerely

Mrs L Hardy

Let's Celebrate!

EYFS children have been enjoying reading “The Three Billy Goats Gruff” and have been making their own bridges.

Year 1/2 have been imagining what their lives will be like in the future and the jobs they will do.  The children were lucky to have different parents come in to talk about the jobs they do.

Year 3/4 have completed their leaflets about places in Worthing and are     excited about showing them to their parents/carers at the presentation next week.  They have now begun the fictional part of their Spring topic.  They are exploring different fairy tales and are looking forward to writing their own.

Year 5/6 have worked extremely hard to present their Highwayman themed dance and poems at their parent celebration.  They also showcased their amazing artwork demonstrating their chalk and charcoal skills.
